Sign a petition to ammend the smoking ban

The smoking ban has done a fine job of allowing non-smokers to go out and socialise in clean air, before the ban was introduced there were too few non-smoking pubs. Now we have gone too far in the other direction, the backlash has universally forced smokers out into the cold and forced some businesses to close where previously their business was mostly to smoking customers. Not to mention the loss of personal freedom.

By allowing a limited number of smoking licenses to be given out by local councils the government can restrict how many smoking establishments there are to ensure that public health is considered appropriately while still giving the owners of pubs and clubs freedom to allow people to smoke on their property.

It is the perfect compromise, allowing business owners to decide how to run their businesses and customers to weigh up health risks for themselves. Those who abhor smoking can have a nice evening out, so can those who enjoy it.

I really dont agree with that because I rather enjoy my local pub being smoke free! Imagine I'd have to hike to a different pub that was rather less enjoyable just because my favourite pub had become one of the smoking places. I have every right to breathe fresh "healthy" air and choose the location I can breathe it.

Did you read what this amendment is about ?
Its about you having pubs that are smoke free, and smokers having pubs where YOU don't have to go.
I am sure they don't want your company as much as you don't want theirs.
I personally wouldn't want anyone like you within a mile of me !
Did you read what you said ?
Go breath your fresh air outside thick with aviation fuel and car emissions.
Drink ale thick with contaminants and tell me that you are health conscious !
You people are unbelievable, talk about double standards !

Yes I did read what it was about but it didn't give details of how it would be enforced. I mean it seems to indicate that a few licenses would be given to which ever places wanted to introduce smoking on their premises - however, so many of these places have made such a loss since the changes that they would jump at the chance. How would they pick which place deserved these licenses? And how would the customers who have gotten used to the smoke free environment react to this?

As for the breathing of "fresh air" which is thick with aviation fuels and car emissions, it's not like I can just buy some from a supermarket. I have no choice as far as that goes, but I like having the choice of avoiding smoke from cigarettes. Yes that does make me happy not to have to just put up with it. Pity it isn't the same at home!

So its OK for you to have a pub to go to, whilst you deprive others of somewhere to go because they smoke is it ?
Millions of people have been sidelined because of this ban and public opinion has changed mainly because of the economic climate.
As you correctly said pubs are going out of business, soon no one will have a pub to go to, including you.
It shows that smokers were giving you somewhere to go.
The NHS is suffering effects through lack of funding caused by the drop of taxation on tobacco sales, not because people are smoking less but because people have started bringing it home from holidays and illegal sources.
I don't want to encourage smoking I want to have a fairer way of looking at this subject.
If you were ever a smoker you will know that the more somebody tries to stop you the more you are likely to carry on.
This ban has done more to hurt smokers in every way, they have been marginalised and persecuted.
The amendment is fairer for all and a way to unite people not divide them.
The tide of popular opinion will sway this, more than 250,000 people have signed different petitions and the numbers grow daily, every one of those is a potential voter.
Every MP will be monitored on how they would vote should an amendment be put forward.
I shall be putting this on the blog again and other blogs I have to make sure that the democratic process is followed and not swayed by a very selfish but very vocal minority
